B-Start Kicks Off 2016 Program With Call for Applications

Bloomington, IN (August 24, 2016) – Bloomington’s startup pre-accelerator, B-Start, will open applications on August 29th. The program is open to all Indiana University-Bloomington and Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington students and includes mentorship, consultations with local experts, workshops, and a pitch competition. B-Start is designed to help students launch innovation-driven enterprises and engage in Bloomington’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Bloomington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) launched B-Start in 2015 with a successful inaugural cohort. Five of the original nine ventures are registered and remain in business, with three actively working on the startup. The winner of Demo Day, Critique, developed a cloud-based, online distance education platform that now has more than 30 clients.

“The success of last year’s group sets the bar high for a new entrepreneurial cohort this fall” said Dana Palazzo, Vice President of the BEDC. “We look forward to helping these students develop solid businesses and put down roots in Bloomington.”

B-Start was recently named a finalist for the University Economic Development Association (UEDA)’s Award of Excellence in the category of Innovation + Talent. B-Start staff will head to Roanoke, VA this October to present for a chance to win first place at the UEDA Annual Summit. To learn more about B-Start or to apply visit www.b-start.org.
